Adam LeWup

He called me today, 10-19-08, and said he has decided to write songs. I am looking very forward to the results. He has a great voice and style, and, if he ever performs with a live band, they will see an unbelievable entertaining dancer as well as musician. Don't believe me? Just wait and see.

ADAM  has had a daughter born with his longtime friend and girlfriend Katie Jackson . The baby's name is Claire and I am looking forward to when she is old enough to laugh at me.

He is a school monster with a 3.78 GPA from L.A.M.P. High School in Montgomery and a 33 ACT score. He's smarter than me and he doesn't have ADD like I do, but he's so much like me that he is liable to get in trouble. Adam has a great voice, but hasn't found an outlet for it yet. I think he will because I can see he has it in him. Adam has always been the quiet one and doesn't reveal much of himself, but I know, from knowing him for all this time , that there is a lot to love about him. When he loosens up at the house I wind up on the floor laughing and out of breath. He surprises me.

Adam Wohlford says he's going to come to where I play and sing Man of Constant Sorrow from "O Brother Where Art Thou". I don't believe him.

So, Adam has gotten a motorcycle. A fast bullet type. I thought he was crazy but he is 22 now and can legally be crazy without my permission. As it turns out, the bike has been good for him. He is getting outside because he enjoys riding so much instead of staying in his house playing 'World of Warcraft' on the computer with people all over the world who have become his friends. Now he wants a dog. What a character. He explained to me that as long as he is not doing drugs, as we have both done to our disadvantage, he is making progress.

It makes me think of when he was in school and sang in the chorus. I went to an assembly where they were singing and I was surprised to see him standing erect with a perfect 'o' on his face singing exactly like he was supposed to. I was surprised because he appears to be a very cool guy - so cool that he would take care not to look like he is a straight school chorus kind of singer. He appears to be a hip-hop detached kind of guy who hides his feelings well and doesn't say much concerning his opinions.

Now - Adam loves to go outside on his bike to breathe good air and he wants a puppy. It is endearing and it gives me hope that he will get through these boy-changing-to-man years without  dying from vampirehood. In fact, while he is working as a waiter at, I watch him sometimes and he is very kind to the point of bringing joy and smiles to the people he is serving. He walks around the restaurant singing out loud sometimes and the reactions are all good.

You know, as a parent I sometimes want to program my kids to do the things which, I think, would bring them success. I am too critical - as if they are each a computer which is freezing up or the processor is moving too slowly and they are causing my life to be delayed or inconvenienced. When I stop thinking of myself and start seeing them from the eyes of others I am often humbled.

For instance, people who know Adam from every day life see him as being a sweet, helpful, fun-loving, fun-causing, and kind person. I have run into restaurant customers of his who light up when they see him as though he has done something in their lives, even just for an instant, to make them feel important or happy. This description is of a person who serves others and enjoys it. Then I am impressed and proud of him. It is not like being proud of an accomplishment like graduation from college, financial success, or winning American Idol. It is the kind of proud that gives me peace and makes my own life better. It is admiration.
