HISTORY / COMMENTARY: This was the first 'HARMONY'. We were well accepted and this music is mostly from a 'Live Concert' that was recorded at the Kove for Y102's Sunday Night Live Concert Series. This series was put on by Lanny West, who was a great supporter of the band. Normally, they would only have nationally known bands on their Sunday night 'Live Concert' show but he thought we were world class talent so he got us on the show. Lanny also arranged for several successful groups to come to Kegler's Kove to see us while we were there, including Charlie Daniels, Wet Willie, The Guess Who, and others (more on this later).

This band was probably the most versatile group with which I have played. Having Beth with us meant we could do ANY female artist's songs and our favorite was Joni Mitchell. One reason was because Beth could, at will, sound as good as Joni. We went to see Joni play in Tuscaloosa and her backup band was the L.A. Express with Tom Scott. They opened the concert without her and we could not imagine it getting any better, then Joni Mitchell came out and it was even better. We came back to town inspired and you can hear the results on 'Woodstock' and 'Trouble Child'. Listen to 'Friend Of Mine'. This is one of my all time favorites and we got a great performance of it that night. The singing was incredible, especially for being live.

This was the time when I most enjoyed writing for a band. With Beth and Jimbo able to sing anything imaginable, I was free to write anything I could imagine for the prettiest singing parts I ever heard. What a joy. These songs are on the bonus tracks which we recorded at Wishbone Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Kelvin Holly, who joined us a little while after Bill was there, played on some of those tracks. I loved the lead Kelvin did on 'Thief In Babylon'. Clayton Ivey, who is known all over the world as a legendary keyboard player and producer, played on most of these tracks. I usually played the simple acoustic piano parts and he did the cool stuff. Kelvin eventually moved back to Muscle Shoals and he still works with Clayton. He called me the other day after having been in a recording session in Los Angeles recording with Clayton and some other famous Muscle Shoals musicians. Kelvin regularly goes on worldwide tours with Little Richard.

Beth Nielsen, Tommy Beavers, Jimbo Jones, and Bill Hinds. I am so very fortunate to have played with this group at this time in my life. I wish I had had better sense while it was happening. But, I'm thankful for this music - and these people are enjoying their copies today as much as I am. Jimbo and I played with Beth, along with Steve McIver (who plays Mandolin and Harmonica regularly with Jimbo), at her parents 50th wedding anniversary just this year (2003). Bob and Dee Nielsen are fine people and we had a good time. Do you remember when Bob and Dee would come to the Kove and he would get up and sing this weird song about King Henry's headless wife Anne Boleyne? Well, I caught it on tape in 1990 when Beth came back to Montgomery to help us open the New Kove where the old Embers used to be. The Ballad of Anne Boleyne is with the music farther down on the list.
